A bucket list item...... gone!

Have you ever embarked on something completely out of your element? A challenge? Something off of your bucket list? You know what I mean...Parasailing, scuba diving, run in a race, laugh until you cry.... etc. Well last weekend I signed up and completed my Pole Dance Instructor Certification.

I need to point out that when everyone said to me...”Oh sexy dancing on a pole?” I wasn’t sure. My response after taking this certification and working out on a pole for 7 hours, was there was nothing sexy about it. (Hopefully the grace and beauty will come soon) This is a WORKOUT! I have not had an upper body workout such as this in a very long time. 4When our trainer (Miss Pole FITNESS 2010 by the way...) said, “OKAY step forward, hold on high, and swing both legs out as far as you can and ride the swing to the floor...” I thought she said “...okay climb this bridge, get up on the ledge and just JUMP!”

As soon as my feet left the ground I couldn’t believe that I was doing it! And doing it well! One of the best parts of the day was that the other three girls that were training with me were in university, a foot shorter, and had months or years of experience, and I held my own spin for spin, climb for climb!

Pole dancing is a form of performing art, a combination of dancing and gymnastics. Pole dancing is now regarded as a recognized form of exercise and can be used as both an aerobic and anaerobic workout. Recognized schools and qualifications are being developed as pole dancing increases in popularity, with the overall sex appeal toned down.

Pole dancing has gained popularity as a form of exercise, with increased awareness of the benefits to general strength and fitness. This form of exercise increases core and general body strength by using the body itself as resistance, while toning the body as a whole. It is also generally reported by pole dancing schools to be empowering for women and to build confidence.

It makes you feel like you are floating, hold on to the pole and you just spin around and you just feel like you are flying, it is just such a freedom. Whether you're wearing 6-inch heels or your frumpiest T-shirt, as long as you have access to a pole, you can enjoy the health benefits of pole dancing,

So...check your bucket list, or something you have always wanted to try and let your inhibitions go! YOU CAN DO something new! Spring has sprung and there are new and fun ways to stay fit and healthy.

What does this mean for GI JANE? So here we go…it’s you, your closest friends, and all your inhibitions checked at the door. What does that give you? Your own personalized training session or a pole party!

Whether it’s a bachelorette party, birthday party, surprise party, soon-to-be-single party, office party, girls’ day, girls’ night, or any other reason for you and your girlfriends to get together, let loose, and experience pole dancing!

Yours in Health,
